Sussex County 4-H Club Information

Below is a list of 4-H Clubs that are located in Sussex County and are accepting new members for the 2020/2021 Project year and have shared their information with the 4-H Office. * Please note that the location in which the clubs meet is for when clubs will have permission to meet in-person. Until that time is deemed safe by Rutgers and NJ 4-H policies, clubs will be meeting in a virtual format.

SPECIAL INTEREST CLUBS

4-H Teen Council

Project area(s): Leadership, Community Service,
Grades Accepted: 7th – 12th grade
Meet: 2nd Thursday (or Friday), 7:00pm of the month at the S.C. Fairground’s Administration Building

Club Highlights/Activities/Requirements:
Members take part in community service projects, leadership activities, and earn job experience. As well as fun social events throughout the year.

In addition to attendance all Teen Council members are expected to work a minimum of 4-5 shifts in the Dairy Barn during fair week, and must do so in order to be eligible for officer positions and/or scholarships within the club as this is our main fundraiser of the year.

Prior 4-H involvement is not requirement.

Allons-Y

Project area(s): Outdoor Recreation
Grades Accepted: 4th – 13th grade (K-3 is sibling of an older member)
Meet: Usually the first weekend of the month but it is flexible based on schedules and weather. Location varies- In nice weather we meet at a park or trail where will be geocaching, in the winter months we meet in Hampton Township for cache building projects

Are designing a 4-H themed set of lab caches around the county. Smart phone with geocaching app and an account with geocaching.com

Branchville Needle Pushers

Love on a Leash

Club Highlights/Activities/Requirements:
Love on a Leash members raise puppies for The Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ. After completing the application process, a puppy raiser will receive a seven-week puppy to raise and train to become a guide dog for the blind. Puppies live with the puppy raiser and the family until they are 14-18 months old and then return to The Seeing Eye for formal training and to be matched with a blind individual.  This is truly a family project and requires a high level of commitment on the child’s part and the family’s part. 4-H members and their families receive support from the local leaders as well as members of The Seeing Eye staff. Love on a Leash meets to practice the commands a puppy will need to know as well as going on outings and trips to provide exposure for the puppies.  A puppy raising family need to have someone home during the day or to be able to take the puppy to work. Young puppies cannot be left alone.
