Learn photography!

New Jersey 4-H Photo Corps

The NJ 4-H Photo Corps is a project where members (in and outside of 4-H) can learn photography from experienced photographers as they take pictures each month.

How does it work?

Each month there will be a different theme or topic to explore through photography. You’ll take a picture based on the theme and submit it through 4-HOnline. Experienced photographers (juror/mentors) will evaluate your photo and share tips to help you take better pictures.

Recognition

The juror/mentors will make their selections for the top photos each month. Additionally, the public will be able to vote for their favorite through the NJ 4-H Facebook page.

The NJ 4-H Photo Corps is based on the Iowa 4-H Camera Corps program.

Photos are displayed in albums on the Iowa State 4-H Facebook page. The public is invited to view the album and select their favorite photos.

Photos from NJ 4-H Photo Corps participants will be shared in a gallery on the NJ 4-H Facebook page.

Themes

Each month, there’s a different photography theme.

This is posted at the beginning of the month. (Once you join, you’ll get an email.) You have the full month to take a picture based on the theme and submit it through your 4-HOnline account. The deadline for submitting a photo is the last day of the month.

Juror-mentors will receive your submission at the beginning of the next month (after deadline) and have until the end of that month to evaluate your photo. Their comments will be forwarded to you. As professional photographers, their tips should help you improve your photography.

Remember, these must be current photos; not photos you’ve taken in the past.

The NJ 4-H Photo Corps is open to youth in grades 4-13 (one year out of high school). You do not need to be enrolled in 4-H to join Photo Corps. There is no cost to join or participate in the program.

We look forward to seeing your creative photography! If you have any questions, contact Ellen Williams, Expressive Arts 4-H Agent, williams@njaes.rutgers.edu
