4-H Re-Enrollment on Hold
Until October
4-H Online has been updated and we are working on rolling over everyone’s information into the new system. As with any new program, there have been some bugs that need to be worked out to make sure it will be easy for you to use. There are additional security requirements that may require some to supply a new password to meet the new requirements.
We will send an email to those currently enrolled in the system when re-enrollment is officially open, that will include step by step instructions for your convenience. The process will be similar, but the look of the program will be different.

Fall Fun with 4‑H! registration link
Do you LOVE Dogs? 4‑H STEP Club
Youth in grades 4–6 Do you LOVE dogs? Going to the dogs is a 4‑H club for kids to learn everything about all different types of dogs! They will learn basic information about dogs, how to train dogs, how to choose the right dog for them, and will hear a vet speak about how to care for dogs. We will also ask the members what they want to learn so we can focus on that as well.
Participants will take part in fun online activities and games as well as a craft they can do from home and will have a chance to share information about their own dogs with the rest of the group.
Don’t have a dog but just want to learn more? You’re welcome to join! Sessions will run on Tuesdays starting October 6–November 10 at 4:30–5:30pm.
Igniting Your Leadership Potential Certificate in Leadership Development is a series of online leadership courses offered by the NJ 4‑H Youth Development Program and taught by 4-H faculty. Youth in grades 8–13 can register for a variety of courses that will provide opportunities to learn about leadership, gain knowledge, sharpen their skills, and prepare to lead. Youth can earn a badge for each course completed and a certificate in Leadership Development after completing four online courses.
Each course meets 1.5 hours per week for four weeks. The cost per course is $25.00. Youth will log-in once a week for a face-to-face session with the instructor and then complete assignments offline.
The following courses will be offered fall 2020:
The Voice of Leadership
This course is scheduled for every Monday in October (Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26) from 7–8:30 p.m.
Everyone has the capacity to lead. However, the ability to convey the leadership message takes skill and a clear understanding of how a multi-faceted communications approach can have a positive impact on others. More importantly, this skill is developed over time as a leader expands their realm of experience and influence. This course introduces youth to communication and its importance to leadership, as well as allows them to create personal leadership messages they can apply to their own leadership roles.
Launching into Leadership
This course is scheduled for every Tuesday in October (Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27) from 7–8:30 p.m.
Learn the basic principles of leadership, along with practical strategies for becoming a better leader. In this online course, youth will learn leadership concepts that can be readily applied to their own life. This includes the definition of leadership, leadership traits and styles, and the tasks and relationships associated with leadership.
Leading through Service
This course is scheduled for every Thursday in October (Oct. 8, 15, 22, 29) from 7–8:30 p.m. Planning for service projects will take place Nov. 1 – Dec. 31.
Become versed in the leadership skills necessary to plan and conduct a service-learning project. Using generationOn’s goLEAD service-learning curriculum, youth will Greet, Discover, Explore, Aspire, Aim, Plan, Ensure, Act, and Reflect their way to developing a service project based on the needs of their chosen community or organization. Youth will learn how to perform community mapping, form a problem statement, brainstorm ideas, plan a project using achievable goals, consider the challenges, and then put their plan into action. Leading through Service is the ultimate hands-on leadership experience!

The New Jersey Farm Bureau offers free membership to Junior and Senior High School 4-H and FFA members. NJFB supports the NJ 4-H Program and sponsors a portion of the delegates attending the National 4-H Conference annually.

Have you seen this Insect?
Some people may think it is a moth but it’s really the Asian plant hopper known as the spotted lanternfly (SLF), Lycorma deliculata (White), and is a member of the order Hemiptera, family Fulgoridae. In the USA, the spotted lanternfly is an invasive species that could be very devastating to some New Jersey crops and hardwood trees.
If you think you have seen or collected a spotted lanternfly please report it (please include the town and county where the specimen was found and attach a photograph) to the New Jersey Department of Agriculture and the Department of Entomology at the Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences by emailing slanternfly@njaes.rutgers.edu. Farmers, nurserymen, and vineyardists should also report sightings to SLF-plantindustry@ag.nj.gov.
